Within the TNW Faculty (Faculty of Science & Technology) of the University of Twente some 700 staff members and more than 1100 students are involved in training and research on the interface of chemical technology, applied physics and biomedical technology. The faculty works together intensively with industrial partners and researchers in the Netherlands and abroad and conducts extensive research for external commissioning parties and funders.

The challenge
This PHD project is part of a project with the goal of developing of a new one-step liquefaction technology for lignocellulosic biomass The PHD project focuses on the chemistry of carbohydrates. Important aspects of the work are the further development of a high throughput experimental technique and the set-up of analysis techniques to identify/characterize the products.

Your profile
We are looking for an enthusiastic, outspoken and fluently English speaking scientist who has a master in Chemistry or Chemical Engineering with preferably a background in organic (carbohydrate) chemistry and/or chemical analysis.
